Troy Davis Article
Monday, September 29, 2008

The main players in Davis' story are 39 year old Troy Davis himself who has been sitting on death row ever since August 19, 1989, the homeless man, and a 27 year old Mark Macphail. Troy Davis was trying to help a homeless man while he was pistol whipped in a parking lot. After that, Troy was accused of killing the off duty police officer and was sentenced to death. In 2007, Davis had his first execution date and was granted a stay of execution for up to 90 days. A re-trial was requested but was denied. Now Davis is trying to get a re-trial from the unjust system to prove that he is innocent.

In the article, there is the incident happening in a Burger King parking lot with Troy trying to help a homeless man while Mark comes and gets killed. There are trials going on on if Troy should die by lethal injection, but there are still trials going on to see if Troy will get a re-trial or if he will get killed. I can lso include Martin Luther King Jr. into the scenery because Lewis talks about the ways people were trying to reduce the racism that was going on, but is still a difficult problem til this day.

Troy is still incarcerated because there are still evidence that Troy is innocent. There is evidence that people have that can still prove that he is innocent so there is a trial still going on to see if Troy is innocent or not. Troy is against capital punishment and no one should be sentenced to a death penalty without having a fair trial frist.

Artist Statement for Campaign Ad
Thursday, September 11, 2008

Something that I took from the sample campaign ads were the different types of variations they had. For my different variations, I changed the backgrounds to make it look more like the picture isn't just placed on by making the opacity less.
For my campaign ads, I used the masking tool to add another layer so that I could make a picture darker or brighter. But for my campaign ads, I made the flag in the background with less opacity so that the picture can be more eye catching. I only wanted the flag in the back so that it wouldn't look so plain and it would match the rest of the concept of the ads that I was trying to make. Another tool that I used was the magic wand tool so that I could get, for example, Homer because I had a picture of Homer with a white background and i didn't want the background so I "magic wanded" Homer, clicked on "select" and then clicked on "inverse" to only have selected Homer. After that, I only had the picture of Homer without the white background so if I were to put a background in back of Homer, I wouldn't have to see the white background.
For the 3 different campaign ads, I mostly changed the background and the pictures that I included in the ads. The first one that I made, I felt like I took a lot of time on over the others because I was making the "'08" out of donuts. After I finished making the first ad, I noticed that it had too much content on it. For the second ad, I liked it a lot because it shows the point quickly and it's very simple. For the third ad, I didn't really like it because the pictures didn't make sense with the idea but it was something that I wanted to try to see if anyone would like it or not.
The final version that I would probably pick is the second one because it shows a lot with little effort.

"Webbies"
Wednesday, September 3, 2008

I think that the site postsecret.blogspot.com is successful because it has a lot of interesting entries that can brighten up someone's day. The pictures and posts are funny and there are new posts almost everyday to keep visitors updated and its almost about anything there is in the media. For example, there is a picture of Angelina Jolie in a picture saying that "All the popular kids are boring". I think that postsecret was nominated because probably a lot of people visit the site in a day and it attracts a lot of visitors from everywhere. The layout is very organized and simple so the visitor can really navigate through the site really easily without problems. I think that since this is sort of like a picture blog, it doesn't have to include many things like words so there is nothing that would make this blog not effective in attracting visitors. Visitors who visit this site can have at least one thing that they really like because there is a wide variety of content, not just about one thing. something that I can do from looking at this blog is include a lot of pictures because I myself wouldn't want to read a blog with just words, I would want to look at something that is more lively.

Response to: "What is a blog?" - By Tim Jarrett

A blog can just be about anything you want it to be, from your daily lives to what you feel about something. Anyone can create a blog and start blogging right away or even read what people have blogged about, "Whether 12-year-old confused adolescents, 24-year-old software programmers in cubicle farms, 30-year-old Iraqi translators in Baghdad reporting from inside a war or sixty-year-old grandmothers with a passion for presidential politics-who might never have written anything before to be read around the world." - Tim Jarrett. This shows that you can blog about anything you want and you don't have to worry about what others think. Jarrett thinks that blogging is a limited empowerment that presupposes a level of access and literacy that are by themselves pretty empowering.

To me, a website is different from a blog because websites don't usually archive the things that they put on their site, but on a blog like blogger, they archive all the entries that you have ever posted from the first post to the last so that people can go back and read what you have blogged about in the past, not just recent posts. A lot of people use blogs to tell others what is going on in the world like what they see with their own experiences. This can replace the sites that people usually go to to check the daily news.

Blogging has to do with relationships when you make it a personal blog. A personal blog to me can be like 2 people blogging about what they do in a day and the 2 people can share their day with each other. It's kind of like when you pass notes during class to different people, but instead this is web based so you won't get caught. :)
