Art is something that one can see visually or touch psychically that can represent an idea or an emotion. I think that this picture of a person made of lego has a deep meaning behind it. To me, the legos in the body represent the man having so much thoughts and ideas about the things in his life that he just really needed to let it all out. He couldn't hold in the thoughts and ideas to himself anymore so the hole eventually burst open.
When I first saw this picture, I knew that I could make this picture be about anything, for example, the man eating too much food which resulted in his stomach bursting out, or maybe it could be him holding in all the stress that he has in his life and he just ended up telling everyone about it so he could get a lot of the stress off of his chest. This picture can really make something think a bunch of random things about what this picture can be about and to me, I think that it is Art because I can decide what I want this piece of art to mean, not just what others want me to see what it is.
Art is not something that is just put together to show an audience. I think that this picture is not art because to me, this doesn't symbolize anything, it doesn't make me think there is a theme or message behind this picture, and it doesnt evoke an emotion. The picture just has 3 pillars in an area and maybe if they were bent or carved to make an objet that had more meaning, I would probably say it is art. But because it is just 3 pillars and it doesn't show me any theme or message behind it like the previous post I had where I could say so many things about what the meaning of that picture is, this is not art.
Art must evoke an emotion, must have an uplifting theme or message, must be a form of communication between the artist and the viewer, and must be unique. If an art piece doesn't have these different types of criteria, it is not art.
For the statements above, I think that most of the statements that were voted a lot on were really what I thought art must be in order for a viewer to see that the art is art. One question that I really thought shouldn't have had any votes for was the "Must be done by a recognized artist" because to me, a piece of art shouldn't be determined by if the person creating the art is known or not because anyone can create art. The art doesn't have to be really nice or have people like it, I think that as long as it has a meaning behind it and people can understand what the art is supposed to show people, then it shouldn't have to be done by recognized artists. After I saw these questions, I started to think about the different things that people want art to be. I think that people shouldn't see art as what they want it to be, but how the artist of the art wants people to see out of it.
This person's perspective about art is how he couldn't get his inner self back into the mode where he could produce art/writings. He is a type of person who would sit in a coffee shop to create his own art while sipping his usual macchiato. But lately, he says that he can't create any art as he used to create it anymore. He describes it as the world having so many things happening at once that he couldn't even produce art that he wanted to produce. His reasons for not being able to produce art are explained to be because of the huge financial crisis, a presidential election, and the war over in Eastern Europe. I think that its not because of these reasons that hindered him to produce art, but the many things that are stressing him in his life that are causing him to lose his ability to concentrate the way he used to before he had all this stress.
Even if he says that he is unable to produce art, art can be in many different forms. For example, the blog post that he wrote is a type of art because he shares with others his experiences as an artist. With this, I think that art is art when a person produces something that everyone can experience by them, for example, something that is on the internet. Without someone experiencing the art product that you produced, it is not really art because it is just like in real life, if you do your homework but you don’t turn it in, then you won’t get credit for it, same as a piece of art, if no one sees the art, it isn’t really art.
Art is something that people all around the world can experience. Art is not something that is produced but not showcased.
